ABOUT E BISTARDE Festival

‘Pejalen taj Pralalen! Stand in solidarity with each other!

Wouldn't the world be boring without Roma, Sinti, Travellers, Manush, Kale etc.?

E Bistarde - the forgotten - don't forget me - forget my - a play on words that inspired us to organise a four-day festival and to think about new ways that are as fluid as life itself.

We are there, we show ourselves, we don't let people forget that there is a history that has haunted us for centuries and that we know nothing about it. We are so many and we are so different.

"We want to give Roma a voice through theatre and culture. It is necessary to know and recognise each other, Roma and non-Roma, in order to reconcile our historical cultural differences. We have put together a selection of plays and performances that revolve around current issues and aesthetics rooted in documenting reality and micro-history." (Simonida Selimovic)

"E Bistarde has a clear social message in terms of education, awareness and strengthening a positive identity, and its cultural diversity about and with Roma works towards harmonising things within Roma communities as well as outside between the non-Roma majority and Roma communities."

On the occasion of the 84th anniversary of the Anschluss of Austria to Nazi Germany in 1938, which also marks the beginning of the persecution of Roma and Sinti in Austria, we remember the victims.

Dreams can come true, even if we are constantly told otherwise. We believe in the performative power that lies in art, which can create places and make them real. This second International Roma Theatre Festival in Vienna is organised by the Roma self-organisation Romano Svato and is a collaboration between Roma and non-Roma from Europe.’
